Magazine Article Inspires Design

Before we put pencil to paper to design a new home, we always ask the client to share any visual references – photographs, magazine articles or online “boards/idea books” – so that we can gain insight into what excites and inspires them.  When working with a young family on Spring Island, South Carolina, we were presented with this image of a old horse barn that the client was inexplicably drawn to.  The family had no desire to live in a barn, but this single page torn from a magazine and tagged with a post-it note sparked the imagination of the Historical Concepts design team, led by principal Terry Pylant, and this fun, funky and entirely one-of-a-kind family retreat was born.
